Meet Lara from Coda Yoga!

"In my short 30 years, I have called 27 different places around the southeastern Wisconsin area, home. And as an adult, I’ve never really had the opportunity to put roots down anywhere. Then one day, three and a half years ago, we drove, unexpectedly, through downtown Hartland and I finally felt that sense of connection.

My former path was in music and after graduating from UW-Milwaukee with a Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance, I bounced around from job to job, working on grad school applications, not entirely sure what I wanted to do with my life. I had done yoga as a home practice throughout college, though it was never more than just a hobby. But one night a couple coworkers all went to a Yoga class at a local studio as a casual girls’ night out. From that first class, I was hooked. The emotional stress relief, physical challenge, and mental clarity kept me hitting my mat day after day and led me to take my first Yoga Teacher Training Program in 2012. After graduating, I began teaching right away and spent the next 3 years teaching at various studios, churches, gyms, fitness centers, and schools throughout the greater Milwaukee area. But there was an itch to do more. With a lot of encouragement and a ton of help from my family and my fiancé, Gray, we packed up our lives, moved to the lake country, and began build out the next day.

We opened our doors to the lake country area on October 5th, 2015 and have been overwhelmed by this incredible community ever since. One of the best parts of my job is getting to spend each day walking the streets of this town, spending time at local businesses and getting to know the Hartland community. We’ve formed some amazing friendships and connections with other local businesses; Yoga and Wine with Bin One Eleven, Yoga and Coffee with Birch and Banyan, Yoga in the Park with The Lake Country Beer Garden just to name a few. Creating connections within the local community has been vital to not only the growth of our business, but in the growth of myself as a person. I’m inspired by and in awe of the leaders in this town and grateful for the opportunity to learn from them, work with them, and even lead them in a class or two! Forging these relationships is integral to my business in Yoga studio ownership just as Yoga has been integral to keeping a level head as a business owner. With two studio renovations behind us, seven talented and highly educated women teaching, our first Yoga Teacher Training Program on the horizon, and a community of Yogis who bring their love, energy, and support to the studio every day, I am beyond proud and filled with gratitude to say that I am a business owner in downtown Hartland, Wisconsin. Cheers to 3 years and looking ahead to many more!"
